Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about Reqad. Still stuck? Get in touch.

Is Reqad really free?

Yes. Reqad is open source under the GPL-3.0 license and free to self-host forever. Registration is required even for the free tier, and a future premium subscription adds advanced features and support.

What operating systems are supported?

Rocky Linux 8/9, AlmaLinux 8/9 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8/9. Install on a fresh server for best results.

Can I migrate from cPanel or Plesk?

Yes. Reqad runs on the same proven stack (nginx + PHP-FPM, MariaDB, exim/dovecot) and includes a transfer wizard that brings domains, PHP settings and databases across from a remote cPanel server.

Which web servers and databases does it use?

nginx with PHP-FPM by default (optional Apache for .htaccess compatibility), and MariaDB 10.x. The panel itself stores metadata in SQLite.

Does it handle email?

Yes - exim, dovecot, Roundcube webmail and SpamAssassin, with SPF, DKIM and SRS, forwarders and autoresponders.

Can each site use a different PHP version?

Yes. You choose a PHP version per account (7.x or 8.x via Remi) and can switch any time, with per-version OPcache/APCu tuning.

Why does creating a new account ask for a password?

Each hosting account is backed by a real Linux system user that owns the website files. The password you set becomes that user's login credential, used for SSH/SFTP and FTP access to the account's home directory. It is not a panel login (the panel itself is protected separately) - it is what the account holder uses to upload and manage their files. You can generate a strong random one with the Generate button and change it any time from Edit account. Note that on a default install SSH has password authentication disabled (key-based only) and no FTP server is installed, so you will want to set up SFTP keys or enable the relevant service before this password can be used for file access.

What do I need to test the early-access build?

A fresh Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux or RHEL 8/9 VPS with root access over SSH, and nothing else installed on it.

Does Reqad send any telemetry?

Reqad sends a small daily telemetry ping to help us understand how it is deployed and prioritise fixes: your server hostname and IP, the operating system, the Reqad version and the server template, plus a random install ID. It never sends your websites, email, databases or any client data. You can turn telemetry off at any time in Settings.
